Let me start things off by welcoming Jan, David, Rohan, Charlotte, Tom, Terry, Hank, Mathew and Al, many of whom have been part of our Week #2 ensemble for years.

I hope that you enjoy this retrospective of what was our 1’st week at Arctic Circle Lodge, that took place from June 28 to July 4, 2024.

Are you ready to immerse yourself in some Great Bear Lake history?

Truth be told, I read a lot of books, many of which were written by, or on behalf of various explorers, prospectors, trappers and the like, outlining their experiences in Canada’s far north.

This particular fish story took place during my second visit to Great Bear in 1979.

We fished out of Branson’s Lodge in those days, which was located in Cameron Bay on the McTavish Arm.

The routine on our day of arrival was that after landing at the Port Radium strip, we were ferried over to the lodge by floatplane, enjoyed a sumptuous buffet lunch, received a briefing from owner Ernie Dolinsky, and then fished locally until dinner.
